Bringing together MTV, nickelodeon and comedy central, british firm Jacobs Webber has redeveloped the Viacom internationalmedia networks headquarters in london. Spread across three floors, the10,000m2 building contains office, studio, production and transmission spaces. Thesouth portion of the site needed to be demolished – a new central atrium wascreated to connect the existing structure with its new insertions. In responseto the surrounding pop-industrial feel of camden, the elevation was constructedusing expanded aluminum mesh with colorful fins aligned in a sweeping motion, following the curving of the street. Breaking this form is an outdoorcourtyard, which reveals a soft green wall behind the hard exterior shell. Anew entrance lobby now spills onto the street edge, continuing through thevolume to an open area on the canal waterfront. Sustainability was a majorfocus and green walls, a green roof, pv panels for on-site energy generationand a rainwater harvesting system were all incorporated.
